I Hate My Computer and Other Inspirational Thoughts

The New Year has not started out very well for Yours Truly. After the first day of the new year, my life went south for the rest of the winter. All I can say is, I hope it has a wonderful winter, and don’t forget to write.

Speaking of writing, I can sum up my feelings at this moment by saying, “I hate my computer.”

Perhaps, you may think the word “hate” a little too strong. Under normal circumstances, I would agree wholeheartedly. These, however, are not normal circumstances by a long shot.

And, believe me, I’ve been tempted to do some shooting.

Usually, I’m good-natured, and easily get along with everyone around me. I go out of my way to be nice and courteous to people.

At the grocery store, I always hold the door open for people; on the highway, I always yield to the other driver, without employing hand gestures; and in a restaurant, I always smile at the waitress, no matter how much she messes up my order.

However, everything and everyone has a limit and I have reached my limit in this matter. The new near has barely gotten underway and already a snag has raised its ugly head in my direction and grinned. And boy, do I despise that grin.

This snag, to put it mildly, has to do with my computer. Oh, how I miss my old typewriter at times. It was such a faithful companion to me in my work. Rarely did it disappoint me or let me down. It always responded to the slightest touch of my fingers.

Then the sad day came when I traded my old reliable typewriter in for a computer. At the time, I thought I had upgraded into heaven. I did not know I was setting myself up for a crash. How could I? Everyone told me a computer would solve all my problems.

In the beginning, it lulled me into a false sense of competency. It actually made me believe I was in control of my computer. And, for a while, it looked like I was.

This past week I was working on several projects. With my computer, I can have three projects open at the same time and work on them simultaneously. I was working on my Sunday sermon, my weekly column and a fantastic article I was writing for a magazine.

I was in high heaven, going from one project to another and making wonderful progress. In fact, I was having such a great time that I forgot to save any of my work.

Several times during my work that afternoon I heard a mischievous snicker coming from somewhere, but I was having too much fun to pay attention to it. In hindsight, I should have stopped right there and pondered the situation.

The sermon I was working on was simply marvelous. I can never remember being in greater sermonic form. Everything just seemed to flow. The ideas opened up right before my eyes, which truly delighted me.

I could not wait to preach this sermon come Sunday morning. I was quite sure my congregation would be delighted with this masterpiece.

When the ideas slowed in the sermon preparation, I simply jumped over to the weekly column and began working on it. Like the sermon, the column was going fantastic. I couldn’t believe the roll I was on at the time.

There are times when you know what you’re doing is good. Then there are times when you know what you’re doing is great. I had never had a column come together so smoothly and quickly as this one. My readers will be awed with such eloquence.

When I was stuck on my column, I switched over to the magazine article I was writing. In a few moments, I was completely emerged in writing the article. Like the sermon and column before it, the article unfolded before me like a rose in June. I luxuriated in the aroma of greatness.

By this time, I was feeling pretty good about myself. This should have been a flashing red light for me. In my defense, I was assuming the new year brought new rules for me.

I’ve given it an awful lot of thought; I do not know what happened next.

But, evidently, I pressed a button I should not have pressed. In the next second, my computer shut off completely. For several minutes, I just stared, dumbfounded, at my blank computer screen one blank to another.

When I came to my senses, I restarted my computer. No matter how diligently I searched, those three files were nowhere to be found. The question plaguing my tortured mind was, do files that are not saved go to hell? They surely were not on my computer.

The thing bothering me the most was, I could not remember the details of my sermon, my column, or the terrific article I was writing. It was as if my magnificent trio did not exist.

In pondering my quandary, a scripture verse came to mind. “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:12-13 KJV.)

No matter how difficult my life seems, Jesus is the “escape key” that enables me to endure.

How To Hire The Right Person For The Right Job

Part of good leadership requires skill in the hiring process. Good leaders know that retention of productive employees affects the bottom line as well as morale and growth.

Recruiting, training and then terminating someone is never desirable. There are many good candidates you could hire. However, even though they may have certain desirable skills, they may not be right for the job at hand. The key is not just to hire the right person, but to hire the right person for the right job.

Taking the time to make the correct hire in the first place is worth all of the effort it takes. The right person in the right job will be productive for years to come. The right person in the wrong job will cause problems, waste time, and expense and send you back to square one again.

Retention is directly related to the hiring process. Therefore, in order to minimize turnover and maximize retention and productivity it is vital to focus on these six steps:

1. Screening Interview

Quickly weed out those who immediately demonstrate they will not fit. Proceed with those who show a history of previous success and who will commit to becoming an employee candidate.

2. Psychological Profile

If your organization does not have a specific test for the type of job you need to fill, there are many different companies that provide tests for various types of jobs. Use the Internet to locate them. Try the search category “job psychological tests” as a starter. Research what’s available and then go with the test that you determine fits your situation best.

3. Reference Checking

This is exactly what it says. There are ethical and legal ways to find out about a candidate’s history. The most common ways are by talking to their previous employer, suppliers and past associates, to name just a few. Information is where you get it. Always be discreet about where and what you learned.

4. Comprehensive Interview

This interview should take from six to eight hours over a one to two week period. It should include, on average, two other interviewers of your choosing in order to form a consensus. Keep in mind that this is really a minimal time investment in the multi-year relationship you hope to build. Some interviewees may try to hide some of their true feelings initially, but most people will become “themselves” over a longer interview period.

This process gives you a truer window on the type of candidate that you really have. Another objective is to try to get to know the candidate as well as anyone in your organization. Many people applying for a job may not be prepared to make the effort required for an intense process such as this. The fact that they will stick it out tells you a lot about them.

This may seem time consuming, especially when added to your already extensive schedule. Always remember that you may be spending as much time with this candidate as you do with your family. Spending the required time now to get to know the person well enough to predict their success can pay huge dividends down the road for all parties.

5. Family Discussion

If they are married, get a little more insight into the candidate by also interviewing their spouse. This is also an opportunity to sell your company to the spouse to gain support. Then you can turn them into a proponent for the company and the job.

Everyone has those down days when they need a calming, supportive, encouraging influence at home.

6. Expectation Interview

After you determine that this is the candidate you want, it’s time to reverse the interview process and begin selling them on yourself and your organization. This is also when the first serious discussion of money occurs. In many cases, the candidate will already be employed and therefore is subject to a counter offer. It’s essential that you get a commitment and that you prepare the candidate for this eventuality. If you’ve done a good job thus far and are competitive and fair, this should not present a problem.

Summary

• Take the time to hire the best even if it takes six to eight hours over a two week time frame

• Go through a six step structured hiring process including:

o Screening Interview
o Psychological Profile
o Reference Checking
o Comprehensive Interview
o Family Discussion
o Expectation Interview

The Satanic Verses of Bhagavad-gita

Bhagavad-gita (which means “Song of God”), the holy scripture of
Hinduism is rather satanic or evil. This is the thesis this
article attempts to defend and put forward.

Bhagavad-gita, also known as Gitopanisad or simply ‘Gita’, is
the essence of Vedic knowledge and one of the most important
Upanisads in Vedic literature. ‘It is the conversation between
Krishna, who is God in human form come to guide and protect the
righteous, and Arjuna, who is the rest of us in human form,
confused about what the right course of action in life is and
sickened by the horror we see in the world around us.’ (See
Linda Johnsen, The complete idiot’s guide to Hinduism. Penguin
Group: 2002) Krishna advises Arjuna to fight in the battlefield
for he, Arjuna, is Ksatriya.

Gita is constituted of 18 chapters, each entailing multiple
verses or texts. The main satanic aspects of Gita are given
below.

1. The Cast-conscious Gita - In Ch 18 verses 41 to 48 clearly
imply that Gita (in particular, Lord Krishna) considers the cast
system (constituted of the four casts, viz Brahmanas, Ksatriyas,
Vaisyas, and Sudras) to be divine and religious. Sudras
performing the works of Brahmanas are thus irreligious,
according to the Gita (see Ch 18 verses 47 & 48).

2. The Satanic Krishna - In Ch 2 verse 31, Krishna advises
Arjuna to fight as a Ksatriya (i.e. warrior) for the sake of
religious principles. Also in Ch 4 verses 7 & 8 Krishna tells
Arjuna that to deliver the pious and to annihilate the
miscreants, and to reestablish the principles of religion, He
Himself appears, millennium after millennium. This means that
all Sudra (and untouchable) scholars (e.g. Dr B. R. Ambedkar, K.
Ramaswamy, an untouchable justice of India’s Supreme court) who
work like Brahmanas, and Brahmanas, may be because they are not
clever or educated enough, who work like Sudras are considered
as miscreants by Gita and are threatened to death. Even Gita
thinks it religious to annihilate those whose beliefs and
practices are other than Hinduism, which would include atheists,
free thinkers, other religious people like Christians, Muslims,
Jews, etc.

3. The Violent Gita - The message of Gita is violent. In Ch 2
verses 31 to 38, Ch 4 verse 42, Ch 11 verses 33 & 34, Arjuna is
advised to fight the irreligious people (his enemy) with violent
means. If Krishna Himself is God and thus almighty, He must be
able to convince the irreligious people that their actions are
immoral or irreligious. Rather than doing so He wishes
bloodshed. Also, if compared to Christianity this is far more
satanic. If Christ were in place of Krishna He would have
attempted to win the hearts and minds of the irreligious people
and the generations to come by sacrificing his own life, by
displaying an ideal of suffering love rather than violent fight.

Ten Tips Before You Travel

1. Read up about your destination. You can do this from a guide
book or using the internet. It’s worth reading up about the
place you are due to stay, even if you’re going there on
business. You can find out about leisure activities while you’re
there, a list of ‘must do’ or ‘must see’ items. If you are
travelling outside America or Europe, it is also worth checking
out any local customs so that you make sure you don’t
accidentally offend anyone in your destination country.

2. If you are travelling abroad, check whether or not the
country you are visiting needs you to get a travel visa before
you can enter the country.

3. Take two photocopies of the page of your passport that has
your photo and other personal details. Leave one copy with a
trusted person at home and carry the other one separately from
your passport so that if you lose your passport you can quickly
get the necessary information.

4. Keep details of all your credit and debit cards together with
their contact phone numbers (if you are going abroad, make sure
that you can actually dial the number from abroad as some phone
numbers only work in your home country).

5. If at all possible, take more than one credit card on your
trip. Credit card companies are getting increasingly worried
about fraud and if they see an unusual pattern of purchases on
your card they may ’stop’ it just to be on the safe side. If you
expect to be making an unusual pattern of purchases it may be
worth calling your credit card company so that they are aware of
the situation.

6. Don’t leave your luggage unattended. If you are flying, don’t
make jokes with the check-in staff about drugs, bombs or any
other security issue. They have to take all such comments
seriously, which could delay your flight or even prevent you
from travelling.

7. Some US states and some countries have strict rules about
carrying fruit and vegetables in. Make sure that you are aware
of these rules - even a seemingly innocent apple or banana in
your lunch box could break these rules!

8. Double check your packing! Whilst you’ll almost certainly be
able to buy replacement items such as toothpaste or a
toothbrush, it’s not the best thing to be doing when you arrive
at your destination. Some people find it handy to type up a list
on their computer and use this as an extra memory aid.

9. If you use any prescription medicines that you must take,
bring two sets and pack them in different locations in case one
bag gets lost. Also bring a copy of your written prescriptions,
including those for glasses and contact lenses.

10. Bring a small carry-on bag with an extra set of clothes. If
the worst should happen and your bag is lost, you will have a
change of clothes until your bag finally arrives. If you must
take daily medication, bring a two-day supply with you in the
carry-on bag.

Why Would Anyone Hold a Bad Meeting?

Pssst, want a stock tip that will make you rich? Okay, here it
is: phone a public corporation and ask to speak with the CEO.

If a secretary tells you that the CEO expects to be busy in
meetings for the next six hundred years, call your broker and
sell the stock short. Any company unable to manage an activity
that should last an hour is on its way down the financial tubes.

Although it’s true that senior executives spend much of their
time in meetings, you can bet that a business is in trouble if
their meetings are out of control.

Surveys show companies waste an average of 20% of their payroll
on bad meetings. And that’s just the beginning of the problem.
Meetings keep people away from the tasks they were hired to
perform — tasks that make money for the company and keep the
business ahead of the competition.

Since bad meetings are so wasteful, you may wonder why anyone
tolerates them. Unfortunately, many business leaders think that
their meetings are just fine. They even believe that they’re
experts at holding effective meetings.

For example, when I phone companies to ask if they would be
interested in improving their meetings, I sometimes encounter an
assistant who assures me that the executives believe that they
hold wonderful meetings. Then the assistant snickers, coughs
softly, and regains enough composure to state that they don’t
need my services. At this point the assistant sounds like
someone on a sinking ship who is throwing a life jacket into the
water.

And that must make you wonder: why any intelligent person would
hold a meeting that wastes everyone’s time and produces nothing.

There are easy answers such as 1) they don’t know that their
meetings could be effective, 2) they don’t know what an
effective meeting is like, or 3) they don’t know how to hold an
effective meeting.

But what about the rest of them? That is, what about all of the
executives who know how to plan and organize and run an
effective business, but still hold bad meetings?

Let’s dig deeper. These executives actually want to hold bad
meetings because they prove to be useful. Here’s how.

1) They provide refuge. Bad meetings provide a sophisticated
form of executive busyness. Some people find this useful because
it keeps them from having to work on difficult tasks such as
planning, coaching, learning, and communicating. Compared to
these difficult tasks, sitting in a conference room is easy. In
fact, it is so easy that a six-year old could do it, assuming
you could convince the child to stay inside for such a pointless
activity.

Better: An effective meeting is business activity where people
work together.

2) They avoid responsibility. Bad meetings never end with
decisions, which means that no one ends up being held
responsible for doing anything. Some people find this useful
because responsibility implies accountability and accountability
requires results. Thus, without responsibility there is no
failure and everyone appears to perform well. This masks poor
performance so that everyone continues to receive raises and
promotions, even when they accomplish nothing because (you
guessed it) they spent all of their time sitting in meetings.

Better: Effective meetings produce decisions that someone is
responsible for implementing.

3) They provide excitement. Bad meetings feature all of the
elements of a good drama, such as conflict, tension, and pain.
For example, the participants deliver self-aggrandizing reports,
denigrate their colleagues, and engage in politics. Some really
terrible meetings play out like pathetic battlegrounds with
verbal gladiators battling for favors while the boss watches.

Better: Effective meetings occur in a safe environment of
respect.

4) They serve food. Bad meetings become an enviable executive
perk when they provide snacks, coffee, and (sometimes) meals.
The attendees then use eating to offset the boredom of having to
hear meaningless discussions. It also saves them the expense of
having to buy food.

Better: Meals should be a separate activity used to build
relationships and (sometimes) rest.

5) They entertain. Bad meetings resemble a party. People tell
stories, trade jokes, and argue over trivia. Some meetings
feature comedy performances by the office fool. Others feature
humorous belittlements by the office bully. And if neither of
these occurs, the absolutely unbelievable discussions amaze and
entertain everyone.

Better: Effective meetings use process tools to make methodical
progress toward results.

All of this shows why the type of meetings held in a company
should be of major concern when making investment decisions. If
the executives need to learn how, that can be fixed by
scheduling a workshop. Then you might consider investing in the
company, after they complete the workshop. If, however, the
executives hold bad meetings to avoid fundamental leadership
responsibilities, you should seek other investments.

An Amazing Punters Article on High Definition Television’s

More or less a decade ago the actual idea of a wall-hung television may possibly have seemed like an electronics fantasy. It was out of the reach of most electronic customers, with very high prices that required taking out a second mortgage to be in possession of these especially smooth televisions. Although, over a period these dream television products reached the level of attainability. Nonetheless, still not something you could just go out & pay for, it has in recent time increasingly become much more of a possibility. Marked-up prices for these flat panel HDTV sets are currently decreasing more rapidly than new residential house values, and have made the electronics vision a certainty. If you are looking to grab a bargain on a 19″ Digital TV then look no further than Digital Direct.

Now there are two competing flat-panel products; plasma & LCD. Although each product delivers an outstanding picture & these television sets may deem alike from the front, the technology on the inside is very much dissimilar. And thought LCD televisions have been limited to thirty seven inches & smaller, television sets with the liquid crystal display technology are now in sizes as large as plasma.

Still, in spite of that, loads of consumers judge plasma to offer quite a lot of key benefits over LCD TV’s. The major benefit is that plasma sets typically include deeper black levels-meaning that the blacks are actually black & not barely a dark level of gray. This in turn means that the colours are much more vivid & lifelike. The recent models from Pioneer & Hitachi have if truth be told taken the black levels to enhanced depths, & accordingly have manufactured the greatest pictures we have seen to date.

Irrespective of the rumours that plasma TV sets “needs to be recharged” after five thousand hours, nothing could be further from the fact. These days flat panel plasma tellies would often work for 60,000 hours or more, providing years of astonishing viewing. Despite the fact that there has been an anxiety over issues such as burn-in (correctly so, as this may ruin that expensive TV), the current TV’s feature technology to sort out image retention, supplying pixel shift modes that gradually move the complete screen and more essentially, eliminate any ghosting should static pictures truly “stick” the picture. This has a white wash mode as well as an inverse mode to take-away any burn-in.

Did you ever wonder how the big boys in Internet marketing build lists fast?

I’m pretty you know by now that building a list of subscribers
is one of the MOST important parts of your online business
if you want to make any real money.

If you don’t know that, let me remind you that the
MONEY is in your LIST that’s why your credibility
and relationship with your subscribers is vital.

I’m not going to explain why and so on, because
I don’t want to lose focus. What I want to share with you
is one of the best list-building strategies I’ve personally used
and it build me over 1500 targeted subscribers in less
than 1 week!

If you want to build a list quickly with targeted
and responsive subscribers, I strongly urge you to use the
co-registration joint-venture list building strategy.

Damn now that’s a long name for a strategy!

Here’s a great example of a co-registration joint venture
which takes up a bit of time and effort but is really worth
it in the end - you could set-up a free giveaway site.
A bunch of people get together to offer their best products
to everyone’s subscribers - all they need to do is fill out a
form to get them.

I know it works because I’ve done it with
one of my previous campaigns.

Here are the details on how I did it so that
you can copy it in whatever niche market you
are involved in:

1. Contact 10 Joint Venture partners or any number of
partners you want to have. The more JV partners
you have, the more subscribers you’ll gain but
you risk getting less targeted subscribers.

Here’s why:

If a subscriber subscribes to 10 lists, it’s a very
high possibility that he (or she) will unsubscribe
because of too many subscriptions. But if
you have 5 JV partners, he’ll be receiving
emails from 5 people only.
The only problem here is
that you’ll only have 5 people to promote the promotion
for you.

2. When you contacted your potential JV partners,
you MUST state very clearly:

i. What are the benefits that they can expect.
Can they make money? Can their list grow?
ii. What they are expected to do. If you need
them to email to their list, tell them so. Don’t
do it at the last minute.

iii. What do they need to offer to be in this
promotion? Normally, each of the Jv partners
will offer a product to entice the subscribers
to subscribe to their mailing list.

3. Prepare all the necessary materials.
These will include:

i. Creating the webpage where anyone who
is interested in getting the products offered
for free can subscribe to the contributor’s (your
JV partners) list.

ii. Programming script to make sure that
it’s working perfectly that each subscription
will go to your JV partner.

iii. Email templates for your Jv partners to send
to their subscribers.

iv. Email support for the new subscribers.
Sometimes, they might face challenges like
failing to subscribe or trouble with downloading
the products. It’s your responsibility to manage
all of these.

4. Thanking your Jv partner. You’ll probably
agree with me that you managed to build a list
quickly with targeted subscribers is because
of the help you get from your Jv partners. Tell them
how much you appreciated their help and if
possible, offer an extra incentive to them. You can
promote their products to the new list that
you have built from this promotion to show
your appreciation for your Jv partners contribution.

Now that you’ve got yourself a great targeted list of
Subscribers the next step is to keep them coming back, for
A loyal list will bring in the money in future.

Magnetic Bracelet Used in Research Study Now in United States

At the end of 2004 results from a study on arthritis patients in the UK was published in the British Medical Journal.

It stated that it had found positive pain reliving results using a magnetic bracelet. This was an independent study, which has been widely reported in publications and on the Internet.

The study did not name the product but it was the Bioflow Magnetic Bracelet that was used and until now it has only been available from sources in Europe. Now it is in the USA for the first time, which gives American consumers a higher level of protection if the product does not live up to expectations.

In the study 194 men and women aged 45 to 80 suffering pain caused by osteoarthritis of the hip and knee were split into three groups.

Two groups were given non-magnetic or low magnetic bracelets. They felt little change in their condition.

But those given a Bioflow magnetic bracelet felt a significant reduction in pain. Changes in pain were recorded using a recognized pain-scoring scale.

No one in the study knew which type of bracelet they were wearing.

The Arthritis Research Campaign of Great Britain funded the study

“Pain from osteoarthritis of the hip and knee does decrease when wearing magnetic bracelets” researchers said. They added “the magnetic bracelet appears to be free of side affects, unlike pain relievers, which are associated with gastrointestinal problems and, for certain drugs, heart attacks and strokes”.

“Magnets are appealing because osteoarthritis is a chronic condition for which our treatments are unsatisfactory” Dr Tim Harlow, head of the research team said. “On the strength of the evidence I am prepared to recommend these static magnets to people with osteoarthritis”.

The study took place over a 12-week period at Peninsular Hospital, Plymouth, England

The BMJ insists on a high level of integrity in any trial they publish. For full details of the report go to www.bmj.com

While the FDA in the United States has not approved the use of static magnets for the relief of magnetic pain they do not warn against it. In a 1999 study of patients it was found 18% had used magnetic or copper devices to relieve pain. It was estimated then that Americans spent $500 million per year on such products making this the second most popular alternative therapy for pain relief after chiropractic.

The FDA goes on to say that in the studies that did find benefits from magnetic therapy, many have shown those benefits very quickly. This suggests that if a magnet does work, it should not take very long for the user to start noticing the effect. Therefore, people may wish to purchase magnets with a 30-day return policy and return the product if they do not get satisfactory results within 1 to 2 weeks.

Given this advice it is understandable Americans would be a little wary about buying the Bioflow magnetic bracelet from a source in Europe. Now there is a company that has a stock in California and is offering a full 90-day money back guarantee.

The company can be contacted through their website at bettermagneticway.com

The method know as three dimensional ultrasound is that can be used when a woman is in early pregnancy, it provides 3d images of the unborn baby. Most of the time these images are captured and combined and animated to produce a 4d ultrasound scan.

Three dimensional scans works similarly to the normal scanning methods except that the ultrasound waves can be sent from many directions. The waves are redirected back then captured to provide information to construct a 3 d picture in in the same way as 3d movies. 3d ultasound scanning was devised by olaf ramm abs stephen smith.

It’s important to understand that sonologists everywhere always pictured 3d pictures of anatomy or pathology in their minds while doing their 2d scans. However, until recently it was impossible to do this kind of reconstruction on on info using ultrasound. With the introduction of baby scans for the first time allowed us a peek into the thinking of a sonologist and so allowing us see the images on the ultrasound machine.

3d/4d ultrasound imaging should utilize ultrasound energy following the same limits as conventional 2d ultrasound to create the 3d images. There is no data to suggest harm due to 3d ultasound scanning, its use in none medical situations needs to be undertaken with the understanding that a risk may exist.

Also store your unborn childs cord blood stem cells by involving people such as virgin health bank.
