Taking Baby Steps to Reach Your Goals and to Achieve Greatness Like Earnhardt and Trump

Ask any famous person that achieved greatness what they did that was different - they would tell you they made their goals realistic and took action. The rest is history. Napoleon Hill stated “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” He used a positive mental attitude and the use of small, realistic steps to achieve greatness. He went from a poor beginning in a log cabin to one of the best selling authors and an advisor to congressmen, presidents and so on. W. Clement Stone took $100 and with this same use of creating realistic steps and taking action he built one of the largest multi million dollar insurance companies in America.

They may not have the current publicity or notoriaty of Donald Trump, Dale Earnhardt or similar, but they came from much humbler starts. Donald Trump was born into a real estate magnate family. Dale Earnhardt was born into a established race car family in Kannapolis North Carolina. Now thats not to say that Donald Trump and Dale Earnhardt are not great people (Dale Earnhardt formed one of the largest and winningest Nascar teams and was very philanthropic and helped a lot of people through his charitable activities). What I am getting at here is that most of us don’t have magnates or millions in our families, but that in no wy means we cannot achieve greatness, riches beyond our wildest dreams, etc… Napoleon Hill and W. Clement Stone actually started with much less and in worse times and conditions than we have ever known (the great depression era).

What drove Napoleon Hill and W. Clement Stone to greatness was two things. (1)They planned realistic steps to reach attainable goals (baby steps). They didn’t just wake up one day and say my only goal is to be rich and retire tomorrow. They made plans and kept slowly raising the bar every time they would attain one of their goals. (2)They took action. You wouldn’t believe how many times I hear people state all the things they are going to do or would like to do. I recently attended a young Cornell Alumni meeting where the talk was mostly about grand future plans, or what they would like to do but they don’t have time, the conditions aren’t right, etc… You have to start somewhere. If you take too big of a step you will probably become defeated and not continue. It is better to take small attainable steps. Each time you attain one of these steps or your goal raise the bar a little. It will slowly move you closer to your dream and give you a great boost in self confidence. You have to plan out little baby steps and then you have to take action. This will seperate you from everyone else - the majority of people live life day to day, pay check to paycheck with little or no action or planning. You can always find these people complaining about how bad the economy is, taxes are too high, etc…

The best thing you can do is find a mentor and surround yourself with positive achievers and realize it will take a lot of effort. Lance Armstrong didn’t win the Tour de France 6 times by accident and battle cancer at the same time. He was driven, set goals, and took action on a daily basis. He also realized greatness would not happen overnight. Greatness didn’t come overnight for Dale Earnhardt either. He raced hard for many years, suffered crashes that would have kept most people off the track and faced fear head on. With his tanacity, fierce vigor and drive he became the greatest Nascar legend of all time. Now his son, Dale Jr., continues his racing legacy and awesome philanthropic and charitable activities. If you take the effort to take action, use baby steps to attain goals and make realistic goals you cannot and will not fail. Failure will not be a word in your vocabulary.

Now you know how to achieve greatness. Set goals for yourself. Make them realistic and take realistic baby steps to achieve them. Take action - this will seperate you from 99.9% of everyone else. They are afraid to take action and will never attain greatness. What do you think Lance Armstrong said when critics said he could not win the Tour de France, or that he could not do a repeat win of it? What do you think Dale Earnhardt said when the critics stated he could not overcome his fathers shadow in racing? They went on to become the greatest of their time. What will you do?

It is never to late to decide to take control of your life and make something great of it. Look at Sam Walton. He didn’t like working with a Ben Franklin franchise and their rules. So he started his own retailing company and became the largest retailer in the world. If you make attainable goals, take action, and lay out baby steps to achieve these goals there is no way you will fail and there’s no telling what you can or will achieve. Some of our greatest achievers have come from the most humbling positions. I wonder what greatness you can and will achieve.

That Big Goal Can Bring You Happiness Right Now!

It’s easy to see ourselves as separated from our goal. We are here, our goal is over there, down the road of time an energy. Our goal will bring us joy. Until we reach the goal, that particular joy is missing.

Or is it?

When you feel the most removed from your goal, or when you’re the most dissatisfied with your current situation, this is the best time to apply yourself towards your goal, even in very small ways. The result is an improved mood, immediately.

Let me illustrate.

Jennifer’s lifelong dream is to become a fiction writer. She knows the odds of success are heavily stacked against her, yet she continues to fantasize about seeing her books on the shelves of bookstores everywhere, about traveling the country to book signings, and perhaps even working with screenwriters to turn one of her books into a movie.

Her hobby, as she puts it, is to generate rejection letters. When she’s had a stressful day, instead of unwinding in front of the television, she works on short stories, and follows a system of submitting them to various literary magazines. She’s learned that for every 50 rejection letters she receives, she receives one letter of acceptance. Therefore, if she receives 100 rejection letters, she’ll have two articles accepted. Her goal is to collect 500 rejection letters so that she can have ten articles in print. When she starts submitting book proposals, the fact that she’s had several articles accepted for publication will help book publishers take note of her.

Every time she submits an article, her mood goes up and she’s better able to cope with the stresses at her office.

Lena wants to be her own boss. She’s very creative and very driven, and has difficulties coping with the constraints of her boss’s rules and demands. She knows she could probably find another job, but she also knows in her heart that she would just be happiest without a boss at all.

When her boss gets her down, she slips out during her lunch hour and goes to the library. There, she researches business how-to books, checks out entrepreneurial newsgroups, and learns as much as she can. Her lunchtime excursions are only moving her slightly towards her goal, but the preparation and learning solidify in her mind the possibility that she can, in fact, be her own boss someday.

Kelly’s dream is to lose 100 pounds. She decided to stop focusing on her weight and instead focus on her actions. Every time she takes a positive action, such as going for a walk instead of watching television, or eating fruit for dessert instead of pie, she feels good knowing that she is closer to her goal. On days when she feels despondent, she lifts her mood by taking positive action. So far, she’s lost 25 pounds.

What is your Big Dream?

When you feel sidetracked or derailed, are there any actions at all, however small, that you can take right at the moment? Even if they move you forward by the smallest of increments, just taking the actions will serve to boost your mood and return your focus to your goals and away from your obstacles.

Let me reiterate: the point of this is not to escalate you quickly towards your dream, but to use that dream constructively in your life right now, today.

The good news is that if you continue to use this strategy, you will notice yourself inching closer to your dream over time until eventually you will have arrived!

Lifes Values

Over time I have come to realize that the three most important subjects in the world to man are sex, property and religion. By the first we create life, by the second we maintain life and by the third we hope to continue life in the world to come. But I have also come to realize that it is not our sex, our interests swarm about our own egos, self-worth or self-esteem.

Someone said “No one can fall in love if he is even partially satisfied with what he has or who he is. The experience of falling in love originates in an extreme depression, an inability to find something that has value in everyday life. The ’symptom’ of the predisposition to fall in love is not the conscious desire to do so or the intense desire to enrich our lives, it is the profound sense of being worthless and of having nothing that is valuable and the shame of not having it.”

Self-esteem therefore is a powerful human need without which we will be vulnerable to various situations ranging from failure in school to failure in relationships. Young people, since they are profoundly uncertain, unsure of there worth and often ashamed of themselves frequently full in love.

They seek those values they cannot find in themselves. They seek honesty, they seek trust, they seek truth, and they seek courage, charm, charisma, confidence, carriage and character in other people. They build their world around the person in whom they find the values they seek. This one person controls their emotional, social and sometimes spiritual lives. They build their emotional lives around the behaviour of others, empowering the weaknesses of other people to control them. This is the height of vulnerability in people.

The reality is that over time this individual we build our world around discovers our dependability no matter how clever we try to hide it and then they use it to oppress us. They know we do not posses the values they do and so we are not their kind of person. In a question of time when they meet someone with their values they will move on. The truth is like terms attract like terms.

It is quite instructive to say that if we can develop ourselves, our heart, our habits and our character to such a level where we posses the very value we are looking for in others we will be better off. We would love from a vantage position of strength and not weakness, we would become a miracle out of darkness instead of a package of misery in motion, we would love ourselves the more and others who we meet will respect us in return.

To achieve this growth in ourselves we must limit contact with those who always pull us down, those who would only see the bad in us and never acknowledge the good, those who would not help us to be better, those who do not posses the values we seek to develop in ourselves because as a stream always partakes of the property of the soil through which it runs, so the principles and habits of youth invariably becomes tinctured with the character of the company in which they mingle.

You must make out a list of your best qualities with the determination of improving them. These qualities will form the foundation of your strength upon which you will build new values and habits. You must also identify the values you are moving towards and those you are moving away from. Remember the chains of habit are always too weak to be felt until they become too strong to be broken. So work at breaking free of every habit that will take you far away from your ultimate goal.

Finally, in the process of evolving new principles, character and habits do not leave anything to chance. Chances are that if you keep working on your thoughts, actions, habits, character and principles you will wake up one fine morning to discover that you are one of the best in your generation.

The values you admire and seek in others can be developed in you if and only if you choose to work at developing them. Remember what the mind can conceive and believe the mind can achieve.

Goal Setting - The Importance of Stern Resolve!

“Every man should be born again on the first day of January. Start with a fresh page…on the first of January let every may straighten himself once more, with his face to the front, and take no interest in the things that were and are past.”

- Henry Ward

How often do you see people who have succumbed to their current, sometimes ill-perceived, circumstances?

In extreme cases perhaps these people drink too much or take some other “home remedy” to self-medicate their feelings of inadequacy and/or hopelessness.

On a more conservative level, they may simply complain about being treated unfairly and/or feel deserving of something they think they’ve either earned or are entitled to.

When setting goals for future success, it’s imperative that you begin the process with a clear healthy mindset. One that empowers you with the realization that you, and you alone, possess the ultimate tool to improve your situation - Freedom of Choice is this tool.

No doubt you’ve heard others speak about the power of choice. The fact remains that in virtually all scenarios, each of us has the personal freedom to choose how we will respond to any given situation.

Those who choose NOT to choose will remain a self-imposed victim of his or her unique circumstances. Those who DO take control of, and responsibility for, their own situations have the ability to effectively prepare, respond, and take actions necessary to improve their lives.

So as we step into each New Year, new month, new week or new day, “STEP OUT”!

Take ownership of the challenges in front of you - and make some winning choices (which may not be easy choices, but will be the right winning choices) that will benefit you for the rest of your life.

Remember these important words by Leonardo da Vinci as you consider the obstacles in front of you. Make your New Year’s resolutions and conduct your goal setting with this in mind:

“Every obstacle yields to stern resolve.”

- Leonardo da Vinci

GOAL SETTING QUICK START

Goal setting doesn’t have to be a long drawn out process. While you should certainly take enough time to be thoughtful in your planning, the process itself is fairly simple.

Consider using the following “Quick Start” goal-setting process to start the year off with a clear vision of what is important to you and how you intend to achieve your New Year’s resolutions.

Reflect On the Prior Year

Note your achievements of the past year - list all of the good things that happened in the last 12 months. List names of new friends and people who have come into your life. Be as detailed as possible, listing the simple to the significant.

List the things that you are grateful for including Health, Friends, Family, Employment, Financial, Emotional, Spiritual, etc.

Note: If you have a job and live in a safe, warm place - you can be grateful that you have it better than a whole lot of other folks in this world. It’s a fact: Gratitude Improves Your Attitude.

Note your disappointments of the past year - list all the things that you did not like about the prior year. What caused you stress and unhappiness? Did you make choices that you wish you would have made differently? Did you associate with less than desirable people that limited your ability to achieve? Make the list as long as necessary - get it all on paper.

At the top of your list, write in big bold letters “Things I am resolved to never experience again!”

Create Your New Resolutions!

Determine what you want - not simply what you feel you need to do, but ask yourself specifically “What do I want?”. Ask this question under each of the following “Life Categories”: Health & Fitness, Family, Friends, Career, Financial, Emotional and Spiritual.

Why do you want it? - Get clear in your own mind why you want these things. Are these goals things that will serve you well? Will these goals help you to achieve a more fulfilling life?

If not, start over and get more clearly about what you really want for yourself and what your motivation or purpose is for wanting these things. You must understand why you want to achieve these goals, because the “purpose, is your ultimate motivation” to achieve your goal.

Every time you feel unmotivated, you will refer back to these statements and realize exactly why it is that you need to take another step toward achieving your goal. This really works if you apply it.

Create your M.A.P. - Master Action Plan!

Get specific! Write down the necessary action steps that you are committed to taking to achieve each goal. Ensure that you include at least 2 action steps that you can do “right now” that will get you on your way. Doing something now, or within the next 24 hours, will create instant momentum for you and you will be well on your way to achieving your goals.

Consider investing in a life management system such as FranklinCovey or Tony Robbin’s - Time of Your Life system. Tools like these are extremely helpful in teaching you more about yourself and how to effective set goals and maximize your time.

In addition, you’ll receive some wonderful tools (planner) that will assist you in connecting your everyday activities to your New Year’s resolutions and life-long goals.

Sound good? Then do yourself a favor and print this article and schedule some time (now would be good) to completing the quick start process.

Avoid the “Someday Syndrome”. Tomorrow never comes, and the road to someday always leads to nowhere.

Oh yes, almost forgot - remember that long list of disappointments you developed? Those things you said you are resolved to never experience again?

Make a point of destroying that list and celebrate your new goals and resolutions. (That “ugly” list isn’t anything that one little match can’t make quick work of.)

“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”

- Thomas Edison

Boating Supplies that Every Boater Needs

As you are gearing up for a new boating season, there is some important gear that you need to take with you to help you be prepared for anything. Before you head out to the water, there are some things that are a must to have with you and some tips that you can follow so that you can enjoy your time on the water.

The first tip is to waterproof items. While this might seem like an obvious thing because you are going out on the water after all, many people think that just because they have everything packed in a bag or stored below that it will be safe from the water. This is not always so. For this reason, you should put anything that you don’t want to be wet in a zip lock bag and carry an extra box of zip lock bags in your boat. Label you bags so you can reuse them. For instance, you might have one for your wallet, one for jewelry and one for magazines and books. If you are planning to stop at a restaurant and will need to change clothes, put your clothing in a waterproof bag as well.

Bring along small trash bags and secure them in your boat. You can fill them up easily with snack bags, cans and cups. This helps keep your boat clean and prevents you from accidently dropping something in the water. When you are done with your day on the water, there are typically trashcans close to the docks and ramps where you can dispose of your trash.

Drinks and snacks are essential to keep onboard your boat. Even if you are not a water drinker, you should keep a container or cold water on your boat and drink about 6 oz every hour to avoid dehydration. Even if you are drinking other beverages, nothing keeps you more hydrated with water. Snacks are important to carry you through to your next meal, especially if you decide that you would like to enjoy just one or two more hours on the boat before heading in.

Bring along games, such as cards and board games. If you have a place to go below on your boat, you might want to get out of the sun or the rain for a bit. Keep reading materials down there as well.

It is a good idea to keep a walkie talkie or some sort of emergency gear onboard to call for help if need be. Even if you own a cell phone, if you are in a remote area it might not work. Keep a waterproof map of the area onboard, flashlights, a flair, extra rope, small tool kit and first aid kit. Hopefully you will never need to use any of these things, but you will be prepared if the need arises.

These are just a few suggestions of what you should take with you when boating. If you are out on the water and think of something useful, write it down and put it onboard the boat as soon as you get home so you will be ready for your next trip. The best way to enjoy your time on the water is to be safe and be prepared for anything.

Goal Setting and Getting: Consistnecy is the Key

If you are like most folks, by this time of the year you are either discouraged about your lack of progress toward your goals or you have given up on them altogether. In either case, allow me to offer you two words: consistency and decision.

In graduate school, I was fortunate enough to be able to play racquetball just about every day. Racquetball is one of those games where you can play well, lose focus for just a second, and then play very poorly.

Consistency is the key

We had a saying back then that applies in the present: Consistency is the key. Consistently focusing on doing the necessary things to achieve your goals will win out every time.

If your goal is to get in better shape, then consistently exercising and eating right will get you there.

If your goal is to save more money, then spending less on junk and consistently putting money in the bank will get you there. You either consistently blow your money on junk or consistently save it.

So if consistency is the key, what is the key to consistency?

Decisions. Making the right decision, making the right choice over and over again over time equals consistency. The word decision comes from the word incision, which means to cut. So to genuinely decide to do something means to cut off any other possibility.

If you want to get into better shape, get the junk food out of the house, because if it’s there you will eat it. If you want to save money, have it taken out of your paycheck and sent to savings before you ever see it.

There’s one question to ask yourself often to keep you consistent and making the right decisions. What do you really want? Do you really want the short-term enjoyment of that candy bar or do you genuinely want the long-term enjoyment of being in better shape and saving money?

The Top 10 Steps to Set and Achieve Your Goals - Every Time!

It’s been said that everyone has goals, whether we know it or not. We have goals to keep our current job, or to get a different one. We have goals to save for the future, or to travel, take a vacation, or purchase the things we need and want to make our lives more enjoyable. An important distinction, however, is that top achievers are very intentional and focused on their goals, while many of the rest of us are not.

Top achievers know that the wording, structure, timing and format of a goal can make it’s achievement much easier - or far more difficult. Top achievers understand the basic skills for setting and reaching their goals, every time! They know how to design goals that create success. Here are the 10 most important steps to set and achieve your goals:

1. Reachable goals are SPECIFIC. Top achievers know that to reach their goals, the brain must know exactly, precisely, what they are trying to accomplish. Never word a goal with vague terms like “some” or “a little bit”, or “more”. Be specific! If you want to lose 8 pounds and reach a weight of 175, specify those exact numbers. If you want to save $200 this month, be exact. Your brain can help you accomplish almost anything if it knows precisely what you are aiming for.

2. Reachable goals are SIMPLE. Many people describe their goals in complex terms of retiring on the beach in Hawaii, with nice cars and lots of money, and…. Their list goes on and on. Any ONE of those things is a great goal, but the combination becomes over whelming and the brain gets confused. If you want to retire in Hawaii, just say so! If you want to increase your sales by 10% this month, say so! Keep your goals simple, clear, and focused.

3. Reachable goals are SIGNIFICANT. No one can muster the enthusiasm, hard work and courage to reach a goal they don’t really care about. A reachable goal is one you really, really, REALLY want! It’s something that will change your life, enhance your health or wealth, and make you proud. It gets your juices flowing, gets you up in the morning, and keeps you going all day long, because it is important! Set goals that are worth achieving!

4. Reachable goals are STRATEGIC. High achievers know that the best goals accomplish many great outcomes, all at one time. Running a 10K race will almost certainly: 1) feel great! 2) help you lose weight. 3) lower your cholesterol level 4) strengthen your heart 5) lower you risk of heart disease 6) increase your energy and stamina, and 7) improve your outlook. Design your goals to strategically impact as many areas of your life as possible. You’ll have more reasons to reach your goal and more excitement when you do!

5. Reachable goals are MEASURABLE. A goal without a measurable outcome is just a pipe-dream. You can’t achieve a pound of “happiness” or 6 inches of “self-esteem”, but you CAN get a new job. You CAN run a mile in under 7 minutes, or do 100 sit-ups. Someone has wisely observed that, “What gets measured, gets done.” Define your goals in terms of height, weight, dollars, inches, or hours. Then measure your progress until you achieve your desired outcome.

6. Reachable goals are RATIONAL. To reach your goal, you will need a plan, a path, and a vehicle for getting there. Your goals must make sense! When you explain them to friends and family, your goals should create excitement, draw support, and encouragement. Your goals should be just out of reach, but not out of sight! You want to stretch to be your best, not strain after impossible dreams. Set goals you CAN and WILL achieve!

7. Reachable goals are TANGIBLE. Choose goals that you can see, hear, smell or touch. Go for things you will enjoy and that you can clearly visualize. The brain has hard time going for “financial security”, but it can visualize a bank statement with nice, large numbers on it! Define your goals in terms that excite the senses, then go for it with all your heart!

8. Reachable goals are WRITTEN. High achievers always know precisely what they want, because they’ve written it down. Often, they write a short description of their goals every single morning, as a personal reminder of their priorities and their objectives. The act of writing your goals down vastly increases your chance of success. Write it down! Then, keep your notes where you can see and read them every day.

9. Reachable goals are SHARED. We are far more likely to stick to our plan and reach our goals if we know our friends and family support us. Being part of a team increases our determination, our stamina, and our courage. Caution: Never share your goals with anyone who may ridicule, tease or discourage you! The world is full of doubters and you have no time for them. But, find a support team, a group of cheerleaders, and a coach who will encourage you every step of the way. High achievers count on and work with other winners!

10. Reachable goals are CONSISTENT WITH YOUR VALUES. One of the biggest reasons people fail to achieve their goals is that they have conflict between their behavior and their values. However, when your values and your goals are in agreement, there is no stopping you! Clarify your values first, then set simple, specific, measurable, tangible, written goals that are consistent with those values. You will achieve them, every single time!

Are You a Southpaw? How to Get Help Financing a Degree

It isn’t simple to find a scholarship these days. These scholarships are different from a student loan because the funds are a grant, so it does not need to be repaid. While researching means of funding your further instruction, check the many unique choices, for instance funding for southpaw scholars. Lefty Scholarships

A lefty scholarship may initially appear a little bit different, but it’s worth considering these facts: Bill Gates is a lefty, so is the president of the United States, Barack Obama. Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Bob Dylan not to mention Charlie Chaplin were also left handed. An estimated 11% of the global population are southpaws. Frequently believed to be much more talented artistically and to be smarter, lefthanders have often suffered from discrimination in the past. Today, lefties are no longer stigmatised or thought of as odd, and may even have many things associated with the famous people identified above.

Should you be lefthanded and looking for grants for southpaw students, some scholarships for left-handed people are accessible which you may be able to receive. The Beckley Scholarship for a thousand dollars is available at Juniata College in Huntington, PA. For pupils going to Juniata College and it was launched in 1979, this particular college scholarship has assisted forty plus students through university.

Some grants do have requirements or limitations. Sometimes certain grades can be involved or certain financial prerequisites have to be satisfied. Multiple program applications will give you a greater opportunity of supporting your university degree acquiring as small a debt upon graduation as possible. You might also consider local organisations, clubs and even groups connected to hobbies. Southpaw programs are not a unique case; funds are obtainable in other instances for instance to the children of veterans or if you are disabled in some way. Seeking out college scholarships may be time consuming, but the return can be huge. Any debt accrued by a college degree may be decreased by such scholarships employed alongside regular lending. Leave no stone unturned and explore all opportunities. The above-mentioned funding is not the only alternative - make a list of your clubs and societies and make use of your creativity. If you even think you may be suitable, then apply, keeping any costs minimal, also you’ll look forward to better prospects after leaving college.

The Expanding Global Assets Space — Expedited by Property Index Online

Notwithstanding the fact that the Property Index is generally viewed as a newcomer bureau, having been incorporated in March 2007, they have established their expertise very quickly. Actually, they are a fairly hassle-free bureau specialising in offering informed instructions to everyone planning to let, sell etc. real estate almost anywhere in the world. What they agree to do is offer you assistance to find smack what’s needed quickly not to mention straightforwardly.

Land is available across the globe in our times, unquestionably the swankiest area being properties available in the USA. It’s no big challenge to tick off the ripping properties available for sale in the USA, the motive for looking for realty here is the houses and apartments on the market and the fun possibility of being able to live surrounded by this energetic and keen population. It is one of the most sought after areas in our times, and in view of the beauty and the climate surrounding you, how could you conceivably say no. Land in the USA is immersed in culture, art and history, this part of the world has been and is still home to a number of sophisticated cultures.

Find a great portfolio of American properties here!

About 25 or 30 years ago you’d find very few of English who are looking for properties in the USA. Just ask about anyone who has emigrated to the USA and they’ll tell you the same thing. Well, some would call it a fleeting fashion and others call it a near to an addiction… Shoppers looking to repair here will range from yuppies who are looking for a life perspective to seniors who intend to enjoy themselves and unwind. Do bear in mind, though, that there could well be setbacks when purchasing properties abroad: there will be 100s of procedures to master be it when scheduling, sightseeing or completing. If you miss out on one single minute action it is sure to engender broad setbacks plus, more importantly, financial damage.

As everybody will assume with this popular area, properties could well be quite expensive in this destination and this, of course, is unquestionably a consequence of the wide spread demand. Nevertheless property buyers are persnickety in an area blessed by sunny geography. Truly it has the whole enchilada real estate buyers could conceivably crave and lots more.
